These are the terms for using Gentle Steps. They are written to be read. If something here is unclear, ask rather than guess — gentlestepsapp@gmail.com.
Gentle Steps is for people aged 18 and over. That is what is declared on the Google Play listing and it is not a formality: the app has no parental controls and no separate handling for a child's data.
The free version gives you 35 breakdowns a month, all the reminders, the calendar, the Learn tab, and both reading settings — typeface and background. A short video advert plays before a free breakdown and is what pays for it.
If the advert fails to load, or none is available, you still get your steps. That is not your fault and you are not made to go without because of it. If you close the advert before it finishes, the breakdown is not generated. Nothing you typed is lost — it stays on screen and you can try again whenever you like. Gentle Steps Plus removes adverts altogether.
The reading settings stay free permanently. Charging disabled people for the typeface and background that make an app legible is not something this app will do.
Plus is a subscription, billed through Google Play, at the price shown in the app before you confirm — that price includes any tax due where you live. It gives you:
What is in Plus can change. If something is added you get it at no extra cost; if something is removed or moved out of Plus, the app will say so rather than quietly changing what you are paying for.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Google takes that payment, not us, so it keeps renewing until you stop it. Cancel first. This is said twice on purpose — on the account deletion page as well — because being charged for an app you deleted is exactly the kind of administrative injury this app exists not to inflict.
Google Play handles payments, so refunds go through Google in the first instance. Play's own policy covers recent purchases directly in the Play Store.
Beyond that window, email and ask. You will get a refund where you were charged for something you did not mean to buy, where the app did not work as described, or where you subscribed and did not use it. You do not need to justify yourself at length.
You get back the time you have not used, not the time you have. The refund is worked out as a share of what you paid, by how much of the subscription is left.
So if you paid for a year and three months have gone by:
Monthly subscriptions work the same way, though there is usually much less left to refund. If you simply want it to stop, cancelling in the Play Store before the next payment is the better move — that costs you nothing and needs no email.
This is more generous than required, deliberately. Forgotten subscriptions are a well-known financial harm for the people this app is built for, and an app about not punishing somebody's executive function should not profit from a lapse in it. None of this affects your statutory rights.
When you write a goal, the text is sent to an AI model which returns ordered steps and times. It can be wrong. It can misjudge how long something takes, put things in an order that does not suit you, or misunderstand what you meant entirely.
The steps are a suggestion to start from, not instructions to follow. You stay responsible for what you actually do — particularly anything involving your safety, your money, your health, or anyone else.
Gentle Steps is a planning app. It does not diagnose, treat, or manage any condition, and nothing in it is medical, psychological, legal or financial advice.
The Learn tab describes strategies with published evidence and says plainly how strong that evidence is, including where it is weak or absent. That is information, not a treatment plan. If you are struggling with your health, speak to a doctor.
Your goals and tasks are yours. They are stored so the app can show them back to you, and sent to the AI only so it can answer. They are not used to train any model, not sold, and not shared with advertisers. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is stored and who else sees it.
You can delete everything at any time — see the account deletion page.
This app is run by one person. It will sometimes be down, reminders will occasionally fail to fire, and the AI will occasionally produce nonsense. Please do not use it as the only thing standing between you and something that genuinely matters — a medication, a flight, a court date.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, liability is limited to what you have paid in the twelve months before the problem.
Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by anything on this page.
You can stop using Gentle Steps whenever you like and delete your account from the page linked above.
Access may be withdrawn if the app is being used to break these terms — for the things in the list above, not for using it oddly or too much.
If these terms change in a way that affects what you get or what you pay, the app will say so rather than quietly updating this page.
These terms are governed by the law of Northern Ireland, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK or the EU, you keep the protections of your own country's consumer law.
